A Seat at Maria’s Portuguese Table

I love cooking and having friends over for dinner. For me, cooking is a creative act — sometimes a process, sometimes an art. With just a handful of simple ingredients like eggs, sugar, flour, a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of salt, you can create an endless variety of dishes. But the most rewarding part is always the same: seeing my family and friends enjoy the food and the time in conversation we share around the dining table.

I began gathering these family treasures in the early 2020s. The pandemic gave me the time to rediscover old recipe books, sift through handwritten family notes, and explore the traditional Portuguese dishes that filled our childhood table. This site brings together the recipes my family and friends love most. Some are more than fifty years old and have been passed down through generations; others joined our favourites more recently, inspired by ideas we’ve tried and adapted from social media.

I hope you try some of these dishes and enjoy them as much as we do. Then, why not browse our family favourites and bring a Portuguese touch to your table?
